The CA99 is Kawai’s flagship digital piano and every aspect of the instrument has been designed to replicate the experience of playing a real acoustic grand piano as closely as today’s technology allows from the touch of the keys to the final sound that greets the listener’s ear.
In playing piano, the entirety of the player’s control over the instrument is via their fingers on the keyboard. Kawai have gone all-out in this area by giving each individual key an extra long, solid wood keystick, its own weight as would be found on a Kawai acoustic grand piano, ebony and ivory keytops and a triple sensor system which all combine to give the player absolute control of every nuance of the pieces they play.
The sound that is produced by the piano has been given just as much attention and it starts with Kawai’s SK-EX Rendering engine in Pianist mode, and players can adjust details of the sound via the touchscreen, such as hammer hardness and string resonance. The sound is output via two transducers to a real wooden soundboard which provides a really immersive experience for the player and anybody else listening.
Performances can be recorded within the instrument itself or it can be connected via usb to a computer for expanded recording and notation functionality. The piano can also connect via bluetooth to Kawai’s PianoRemote app for ease of use.
